Help
When entering info from the keyboard when I press shift /x it does not produce X, using caps lock does produce X. This is the same for other keys as well. I have NO trouble with the keyboard when using Word / Excel etc.
Can you shed any light on this?
Many thanks

Tony:

That's mighty interesting. We can't duplicate this symptom with a first pass in CheckBook 1.6.1 - Shift works as expected in a Debit Entry's To & Description fields, and also in the Notes tab. Can you isolate this to a particular area of CheckBook, or describe the areas where you see it occur?

Works just fine here, too. Time perhaps to reboot first, then zap the PRAM and see what happens. Maybe even download the app again, toss the old one and reboot it (you won't lose any data). Repair permissions and run mac janitor too, while you're at it.

Dear Keith and t3rockhall
Thanks for the replies. The problem exists with the keys x,e & n only. The problem lies in both To:(set at 'The following descriptions') and Description: (set at 'All entered items'). I have tried trashing Chekbook and reinstalling - same problem.
I have repaired permissions and run Onyx. However - what does zap the PRAM mean and how do I do it?
Any further thoughts would be most welcome.
Best wishes

I don't think I would suspect PRAM when these keys work correctly outside of CheckBook. Of course, if we can't isolate the issue within CheckBook then zapping PRAM is worth a shot. My bet is we'll find the issue is entirely CheckBook's and possibly linked to a single Account.

Now, is this only occurring in the To & Description fields, then? And, would you try to duplicate the issue in a brand-new Account?

It's worth knowing how to Zap the PRAM in any case.
Zap the PRAM means "Resetting the Parameter Ram," BTW.

Here's how you do it.
Restart while holding down Command, option, P and R. These 4 keys, all at the same time. WAIT for the startup chimes to ring at least THREE times, and then let go. The Mac will then start with the PRAM reset.

This is one of the few fixes that are actually in the Macintosh manual!

I have tried a new account - same problem! I have also tried entering schedules, account names, splits and notes, all with the same result. I have not tried the PRAM thing yet.
Thanks for the continued support.

Tony:

Please check your personal email for a message from us. We could use your help with some troubleshooting on your Mac involving a private pre-release build of CheckBook 1.6.2.

Thanks Tony!

Only to pleased to try and help! I have done as you said and as I did it shift / xen seemed to work! I enclose the pasted log file for you to look at. When I tried it in 1.6 it didn't!

That's unexpected. We didn't change CheckBook's keyboard input process between 1.6 and the build we asked you to test.

I've sent another email with a link to a new private build. Would you mind testing it to see what happens?

I have accidentally deleted your latest email re 2nd test build. Could you re-send it and i'm happy to help.
I am now using 1.6.1 and, despite it working during the test I sent you, in every day use the problem persists.
best wishes

I have downloaded the latest test build with no code to log keystrokes. I entered xen, shift xen and caps lock xen and they all worked fine.
When I went back to 1.6.1 - same problem.
Over to you and still happy to help!
