You can start a new Project and drag in the final 8-hour Audiobook Parts one at a time. They should split up into Chapters according to how they were chaptered in the original Projects. If you added artwork to the original Projects you'll need to redo that. Then, as long as everything's in the right order, when you go to build again they should simply pass through into the new Part length you've selected.

This is an issue we reported to Apple over two years ago, with instructions on how to reproduce using only QuickTime Player to create a plain M4A file and setting the track as bookmarkable in iTunes. They acknowledged the issue but, so far, have not committed to a resolution.

I have several audiobooks that I downloaded from iTunes that have parts much larger than 2.5. I just tried one that is 8.9 and sure enough it goofs up too. I always wondered why at times I could not get back to where I was before I turned it off but other times I could. Seems strange that if Apple knows they have a problem that they would sell audiobooks with parts longer than 2.5.

Is there anyway to cut the part size down on protected files that were downloaded from iTunes?

That's the first we've heard of official iTunes Store Audiobook files weighing in longer than 2.5 hours. Most are under that. Can you tell us which ones you have?

I wish we could help out on the stuff you've purchased from the iTunes Store. Unfortunately, Apple's FairPlay DRM prevents third-party applications, like Audiobook Builder, from working with protected iTunes Store tracks.
