Hello,
is there a possibility of using apple scripts with ABB? I would like to convert a whole bunch of audiobooks with ABB one after another and thought of using scripting for it....does anybody know about this?

Audiobook Builder doesn't have its own AppleScript support but you can probably get away with scripting the user interface. Here are some tips:

- Turn on "Enable access for assistive devices" in the Universal Access preference pane in System Preferences and you should be able to script the interface.

- Use a tool like UIElementInspector, available at developer.apple.com , to figure out the interface element hierarchy (button "X" of window "Y"). Check out the Processes suite in the System Events AppleScript dictionary for commands and element terminology.

- Since the build process is modal you'll probably want to poll for the appearance of the "Build Complete" sheet to tell when the build is complete. Script a click on the OK button, then open another Project document and build that one.

- I notice opening documents via AppleScript leaves the main Audiobook Builder open. That shouldn't happen in normal use and for the sake of scripting the interface just to build a batch just ignore that that window is still open.

Indeed scriptability is an important feature to add!

I’ll regard @keithg’s advices an see what I can achieve…

Meanwhile you might be interested in my little script, see http://www.splasm.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=659.

Together with Keith’s hints this could be made into a "Take my whole playlist with multiple audiobooks and convert them in one go" megascript.

Hi Thorix,
thank you so much for your Script...that´s quite the thing i was looking for....I thought about avoiding Itunes and working up all notyetconverted Audiobooks in a specified folder, but your soltion is maybe even better by having more control over the added files via playlist. As you mentioned on your website, i am bored of copy-paste technique too and so it much more easy to do it with your script.

Greetings from Germany to Germany

Ralf

Hi,
although I am reviving a thread which has been dead for 9 years:
Does anyone still have Thorix`s script available?
I once had it some years ago but lost it.
Now I have a bunch of audiobooks for my kids in need to be converted...
Regards,
Buzze

Hi Buzze!

Even though the page where the script was linked seems to be missing, there's a direct download link in Thorix's post here. Click here to download the script.

Do the download and script work for you?

Hi keithg,
thanks for your reply. The download link is for a script that builds ABB project files from iTunes. I have this and it is working.
However, Thorix also developed a script which will work the whole way from iTunes to the m4b-file. That`s the one I`m looking for.

Ah, you want the final script that automates from iTunes, start to finish. We never downloaded a copy, and the Wayback Machine doesn't have that particular page archived, for some reason, so I sent an email directly to Thorix to see if they can help out.
