Since Splasm does not seem to be bringing out an iOS version, I am trying checkbookHD. It is built for iOS. Good ratings.

The question is: does it export to qif?

I've been using Pocket Money for a few years and it is flawless in exporting. Works fabulously well.

It is unacceptable not to have an iOS version of Checkbook Pro. The smartphone is too well entrenched not to come out with an iPhone version. It would be nice if the company could tell us what their thinking is on this. The only thing their press kit says is they are exploring the possibilities. Time to giddyup, folks!

Go through the years' worth of posts on this subject to see where they are on this. I believe it is a non-issue now. If they come up with something, then fine and good. If not, that is okay by me. What I didn't like were the years of promises — even with a proposed name [MoneyBug] and, I believe an app icon — but they have not said anything about development on this for a long time now. I believe they learned their lesson about making promises.

I am not switching to another app, as CBPro is far superior to all the other apps in what it does. I have tried most, if not all, of the personal finance apps out there over the years and I keep coming back to CBPro. It is a fine app and the support is excellent either directly with the staff, or through this forum. I do not need or want all of the bells and whistles that other solutions have. I especially do not like apps which download transactions automatically and then arbitrarily categorize your transactions. I like to maintain far more control over this aspect of things, so that is not for me. I do not need to use budgeting and some of the other features of those other apps.

If the folks at Splasm come up with a mobile solution, fine and dandy. If they never come up with a mobile solution, fine and dandy. I have a work around which I have written about. It is fine for me and really does not hamper my workflow at all. But then again, I only use this work around when I am overseas and do not have my computer with me.

So. Long story short. If you are looking for a mobile solution right now, then go somewhere else. Splasm may or may not ever come up with one. I'm quite happy either way. And now that they have quit talking about it, I do not have my hopes up. And that is fine, too!

It seems Splasm is working on an iOS version of Checkbook. Here's an email I had from Allan Woodall on Nov. 10:

"We just starting back up our development on an iPhone version of CheckBook so it’ll be several months, at least, before it’s ready. We’ll update everyone on our progress at http://splasmata.com.

Hi,

I am glad they wrote you. However, I still stand by my earlier posts on this issue. We've been promised this on and off for more than a few years. I bought CBPro in 2009 because they said then that a mobile solution was in the works. It has now been almost nine years! So, even though I love the app and the guys are great... I will believe it when I see it on my device. :| :| :|

It has been over six years since the iOS app has been mentioned on their blog. See it here: http://www.splasmata.com/?p=1363

That entry was an apology for why it has taken so long to get this done. Over six years later and.... Nothing.

So now you know why I am not holding my breath!

That was the whole idea, the stated reason, for putting the Checkbook file in iCloud.

I bought CB Pro in 2011 and have really liked it. But that was before I got married. Now sharing an account with my wife, it is more difficult to keep CB Pro up to date so we can always know what we have in our account. Last September, I started using Mint (by Intuit of TurboTax fame). At first it was a little difficult to get used to, but over time we have figured out the nuances. Not only do we have our main bank accounts connected, but also all of our secondary credit accounts, student loans, mortgage, etc. If we write a check or do a transaction while we are out and about, we open up the mobile app and enter it in as a pending transaction. When the transaction ultimately goes through, the pending transaction is removed and replaced with the bank reported transaction. Best of all, everything updates automatically albeit the updates do happen only periodically so as to not create any issues with the connected accounts like logging in too many times in a time period that makes it look suspicious. But whenever you log in, you can go into the settings and force refresh the accounts. Also, when you categorize each transaction, it allows you to set up budgets and alerts. My last entry in CB was in November and I won't be using it anymore.

Glad you found something that works for you.

I guess I’m old fashioned in that I want complete control over my entries, so I do not go for apps with built in banking. I prefer to manually enter each transaction. I find there is less confusion and fewer mistakes. Plus I prefer the traditional checkbook layout. To each her/his own.

Sticking with CBPro.

I’m delighted with CBP. But, like others, I want an iOs version simply so I can record a transaction on my phone, and have it show on my desktop. Like others, I don’t need all the bells and whistles of other apps; just a way to avoid manually transferring data.

Maybe through DropBox, like some other apps sync.

Have you tried Pocket Money? I use that for my mobile solution. I can easily export my files into CBPro. You will want to set up the accounts with names identical to the ones in CBPro. Then export the qif file in an email. It is then a simple matter of importing these into your CBPro file. Been doing this for years.
