So, I did the upgrade to Checkbook 3 - and was rather shocked at how extensive the UI changes were. And, um, mostly I don't like them.

I really like Checkbook, and I'm more than happy to support upgrades. I haven't checked most of the new features yet, but since I was updating register entries right away, the UI changes there really jumped out. So, here's my feedback on those:

- Account totals have a strong highlight bubble around them; too much and too strong

- Reconcile has nice strong checkmarks, but when I switch windows (to check various items) the Checkbook screen changes and the blue checks are nearly invisible. That's odd, and annoying

- Previously reconciled items - while reconciling - don't have checks visible, or any other indication (except a tool tip that it's already reconciled). Those should have a strong blue check, maybe a little lighter than the current reconcile checks but still clearly visible

- The registry entries should have an option to remove the shadows; it makes the fonts really heavy and less readable

- Dark mode is nice, but there should be option whether to use it not. I usually have the system in dark mode, but Checkbook in light mode. That's no longer an option. I don't want to Checkbook to always follow the system setting.

- When updating registry entries, for some reason the numberpad 'enter' key causes the reconcile entry to be checked, instead of just entering the record and closing the entry window. That's weird and not expected, or wanted.

A lot of these issues were addressed in the 3.0.1 update we released somewhat recently. So, you might want to give that new version a try by accessing the Updates section of the App Store. For example, the update brought with it a less intense Balance bubble, options for switching between dark and light mode (independent of what's set in System Settings), and even adds back support for using the Enter key on a number pad to activate the OK button on new Entry sheets.

Now, with regard to the Reconciled checkmarks, we'll have to look at maybe swapping out the checkbox, after something's been Reconciled (as opposed to using Apple's default look for inactive checkboxes), to help with visibility. For now, though, perhaps you'd benefit from having macOS's Increase contrast option active, found under System Settings/Accessibility/Display.

Lastly, you'll find that in 3.0 and later, it's possible to turn the Opacity down to zero for the Shadows color, to rid yourself of any shadows. Go up to click the CheckBook menu and select the Settings menu option, to get to where you can adjust the Shadows color.
