Dear Checkbook,
one does not need to be George Soros to use different currencies...
Take me: although I live in the Euro zone, I also own a bank account in my wife's country, which does not belong to the Euro zone.
Perhaps you could consider letting the user choose the currency in every account and, at least at the beginning, not complicate your life with conversions and whatnot.
Also, the "total assets" is a peculiar American obsession: in Europe we do not believe we are what we own, and so it is far less important to know every second of my life how much it is my net worth...
