 Post subject: Disappearing Account

I have Checkbook Pro, version 2.6.13.

My file has 4 accounts in it, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017. For some reason when I went in to make entries in 2020, the account was not there. It has been there all along. I had to reload using a backup file which then gave me 2020.

Made my entries, backed up to another file and closed it. Re-opened, same thing, no 2020.

Why is this occurring and is there a fix?

I am running Catalina ver 10.15.4 and everything has worked fine. The only change I can think of was when running Malwarebytes, if found a .pup file which was removed, but I doubt that could of caused it, or did it?

Hmmm. Are you sure you haven't inadvertently initiated some kind of filter that is excluding this account? Is it not showing up in the account list side drawer? Have you hidden it?

Not sure of any filter. Accounts show to right side, nothing hidden. It is basically not saving the main file or something.

The 2020 account is there when I reload from backup, and is there in the backup, but the main version does not have it.

It sounds like the main account was removed from your primary document, and so anytime that file's reopened, you'll no longer see the 2020 information. The best option would likely be to replace the primary file with the backup. But, we can also try to learn more by looking at recent system logs, if you're willing to send those over to us at support@splasm.com. To gather the logs, open CheckBook Pro, go to the Help menu while holding down the Option key on your keyboard, click the Go to System Logs Folder menu item to be taken to the logs folder, then send each item whose name begins with the word “system”.

Per your reply, I replaced the original file with the backup and for now, all is back in order. I am not sure what caused the original problem.

Regardless, I wish to thank all who were prompt in replying and solving my issue.

Very professional and timely.

1. Happened to me. My fault. I had a few characters in the search box. Make sure you set the preferences to clear search when changing accounts. This will also clear the box when closing.

2. Instead of making a separate account for each year, you can just have one account, and use a smart folder for each year This will eliminate work when the years change.
