Hi All:
I downloaded the 2.6.11 upgrade just as I have many times before but it refuses to install in the manner I'm used to. Dragging the app to the app folder creates an alias that invokes the .dmg file and loads the drive each time. I can use the software but only in a "live" sense from the mounted drive.

Any suggestions?

Perhaps it'd be good to drag the alias to the Trash, then try copying/pasting the application from the Disk Image (DMG) to Applications.

Allan:

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Dear god in heaven, I've tried a thousand different things since December 26 and nothing worked until your copy-paste suggestion.

Happy New Year and thanks again,

Charlie

After successful update to 2.6.11, I cannot delete the disc image. I drag it to the trash, but it remains on the desk top.

CheckBook being run off the Disk Image is something that would prevent it from being deleted. So, try quitting CheckBook, then double-check that the application is in your Applications folder before attempting again to remove the DMG. Going forward, 2.6.11 can be launched from Applications or using a Dock icon.

I have a copy in my applications file - size 38.2 MB. I have another copy in my downloads file - 32.3 MB. Can I delete the copy in the App file and then move the copy from the download file to the App file?

The item that's 38.2 MB in size should be a full-fledged copy of the application, while the smaller item is likely just the downloaded DMG file. So, it's probably best to leave what you have in Applications alone, and delete what's in Downloads. You'll want to confirm that what's in Applications is version 2.6.11, though.

I deleted the 32.3 Mb file in the download folder. I have Ver 2.6.11 in my App folder. I am still unable to delete the disk image file.

That's strange. And, this is true while CheckBook isn't even running? If so, try Restarting your Mac.

Did a reboot. The image file is still present.

And, this is still the Disk Image (which has an icon that looks like a white hard-drive marked with a green S)? If so, you might try double-clicking it, then going to the File menu at the top of the screen to use the Eject menu option found there.

The disk image does not have a green S... I think this is a disk image of my hard drive.

It's the mounted Disk Image that will have the green S on it, while the original DMG download will use an icon that looks like a piece of paper with a pretty standard-looking hard-drive image on it. Supposing this is what you're seeing there (the paper with the hard-drive on it), and you continue to have trouble dragging that to the Trash, you might try using Terminal to move it there. Here are some steps to follow, for doing that:

1. Launch Terminal.app from Applications/Utilities.

2. Type "mv " without the quotes (note the space after the letter "v").

3. Drag the file into the Terminal window. A file path will appear (for example, "/Users/[your User name]/Desktop/CheckBook.dmg").

4. Copy/Paste the following bit of text in after the file path (without the quotation marks included): "~/.Trash". So, it's just the tilde, slash, period, followed by "Trash".

5. Hit the Return key on your keyboard.

There's also the option of clicking the file while holding the Control key on the keyboard and using the Move to Trash menu option.
