Hey there,

Have been a fairly longtime CB user and have recently encountered what looks like a major bug. I'm actually hoping its not and that someone can guide me to a fix but so far I've not been able to figure this out on my own (and I'm no slouch).

Checkbook will not allow us to enter dates past December 31, 2008. Anything that we've set up into 2009 is automatically reformatted to the same month and day but 2008! Ironically, CB adds or subtracts the amount as per usual but it changes the date back to 2008 and will not accept 2009 not matter how we try and set it.

For example:
I set a bill to be paid on January 5th in the amount of $50. The $50 is deducted from the balance as it should be but the entry doesn't appear in the register! If I go back to January 5, 2008, there is the missing entry. When I try and edit this to move it to 2009, either using the built-in calendar selector or manually setting the date, it remains set for 2008.

This is obviously a huge concern for us and should be for any other CB user as well. Has anyone else experienced this? If so are there any immediate workarounds? Please advise and with a quickness!

Many thanks!
Emanuel

Perhaps you just have the 2008 Smart Folder selected. You have to make a new 2009 folder and also change the rules for 2008 AND 2007. But if you click on the Account folder, everything from when you started will appear.

Thanks for the assist...I'll certainly take a look at that but I don't think so. We've never set up Smart Folders...is this a default setting? Anyway, I certainly never noticed this sort of thing before when transitioning from year to year.

Anyone from Splasm HQ on the line?

EB

Happy New Year to you all :D

So far I have been unable to either get any technical support nor solve this on my own. As we rocket through January in the physical realm, my Checkbook is stuck in 2008.

Here's the latest:

1. Backup Accounts.plist files brought in exhibit the same behavior as the originating file. I pulled in backups from 2006 and 2007 and immediately the reset all dates to 2008! At least that tells me the data files aren't necessarily the problem.

2. After this, I went through the process of removing not only the program itself but deleting any and all trace of it before reinstalling it fresh. After linking in the backup file, I encounter the same issue again, I cannot change the year date no matter what. Looks like it must be the PLIST file, right? Time to put that to the test...

3. With yet another fresh install of CB, I set up the account From Scratch and go to set up anything in January 2009 and the same thing applies: No ability to select the year or change it in any way shape or form. Very frustrated with this and will now begin looking at one last possibility...

4. Exported my original PLIST file and opened it in another program and guess what? The data is correct! Now, what could possibly be preventing a clean install of Checkbook 2.0.2 from not only seeing but accessing this data, I'll never know. Perhaps I can try to reimport this data from a QIF or something to try and fool it but I'm not feeling confident. Of course, if I can get it to work, I'll post the solution in case anyone else encounters this level of file corruption in the future.

To say that this sucks is a serious understatement. At this point, I've put in a large number of hours dicking around with this and am extremely unhappy to be saddled with an unusable program, especially one I've come to depend upon for the past couple of years. I've been around the block with hardware and software issues and even the most daunting have eventually been solved for better or worse. This one takes the cake. Since there is no way to know what caused this and it appeared out of nowhere, I'd back up your data if you're not doing so regularly. CB seems to generate backups automatically which is nice.

If anyone has anything they can think of based on what I've described above, by all means post away.
If your data is looking good and all is well, I'm really happy for you but it's completely unhelpful.

Best,
EB

Good luck

Have you checked the filter(search) setting to show "All Dates".
It's a long shot... but this cured it for me.
Hope this will fix it

god luck

I had been in email contact with ebrownPDX, and he had emailed me that he had found a solution on the 19th of January. He had said he would post his solution, but that was a few weeks ago. Thanks for everyone's help!
