Hello.

I have downloaded the trial version of Checkbook and I trying to upload some data from my bank so I can fully road test it.

Problem is, I have downloaded both versions of QIF files that my bank offers ( one is 'Money QIF' and one is 'Quicken QIF'), and both times nothing has imported. I have checked them in Text Edit and there is definitely info there.

Any ideas?

There's a good chance that the file is slightly different than what CheckBook is expecting. We recently had a user report that their QIF would not import correctly - it also came up blank - and it turned out that their bank would export transactions in a QIF "Oth L" transaction list, instead of a "Bank" list. We quickly added "Oth L" to the types of lists CheckBook would import and it worked fine afterward. The fix will be in the forthcoming CheckBook 1.5.1.

In the meantime, would you mind sending us a very small sample of your QIF? Just one or two transactions is fine. You can send to support@splasm.com and we'll get the issue resolved right away.

Thanks for the super-fast response! :)

Just emailed you. Looking at the file in Text Edit it does say something about Oth L at the top.

Do you know when the version with the bug fixed will be out? Is there anyway I can (simply) amend the files in Text Edit for the time being?

Thanks for sending over the sample.

I think this is exactly the same as the other user I mentioned. You should be able to get the file to import by opening it in TextEdit and changing the first line from "!Type:Oth L" to "!Type:Bank". If that works then the issue is already resolved as part of CheckBook 1.5.1, which we are looking to release tomorrow or Friday.

Please drop us a line so we know whether the workaround works for you.

Brilliant! Worked straight away, thank you.

Going to have a play around now.

Just have to say quickly that I have never had such fast, friendly and helpful customer service!

Thanks again.

I'm having this same problem. Here's the first few lines of my file:

OFXHEADER:100

DATA:OFXSGML

VERSION:102

SECURITY:NONE

ENCODING:USASCII

CHARSET:1252

COMPRESSION:NONE

OLDFILEUID:NONE

Is this the same problem? If so, can it be fixed? I just purchased a license last night and would hate to think I can't use it.

Thanks!

NEWFILEUID:NONE

It looks like your statement file is in the OFX file format. CheckBook 1.7.1 only understands the older QIF file format but CheckBook 2.0 will support OFX.

Does your bank offer QIF statements?

I doubt it. I just chose download to Quicken and saved the file...there's no option for a different file type. So, basically, I can't import my data, then?
