I don't know if something is wrong or if I am doing something wrong...

I had to re-install MacOS X the other day and I always backup Checkbook after each use. I just re-installed Checkbook and did the restore option, selected my restore file and set the options that come up...but it restores NOTHING

What's happening? All my financial data is at risk

You mentioned selecting the file to restore and setting options, but in CheckBook there isn't an interface for selecting a file to restore and there aren't any options for restoring the file. Are you selecting Import, by chance? The Import option is for bringing in QIF data and will not work with CheckBook's data backup.

To restore you only need to quit CheckBook and copy your backup to the /Users/[your username here]/Library/CheckBook/ folder and make sure it is named Accounts.plist. There will be a file of that name there already - you can safely remove it first. Launch CheckBook and the data should appear just as it did on your previous Mac. Let us know how things turn out!

Which brings up an interesting question...

WHY does checkbook save the backups back to the beginning? Looking into my folder, I see there's over 2 megs of backups. Perhaps you might add a PREFERENCES setting for "Save backups for x Months" or the like??

We'll be doing just that and more in CheckBook 2 .

That did it, thank you so much for explaing that. I was trying to "import" my backup file, haha...

I cannot wait for CheckBook 2.0!
