I had a bunch of entries in my Checkbook and I needed to formatt my machine. So I clicked 'File - Save Changes' and I also clicked 'File - Export' and saved my Checking Account as a text file. I also clicked File - 'Backup Accounts' and saved the Accounts.plist file...

However, I cannot get any of the files that I saved to import any of my information. Each and every one opens a blank account window. Any thoughts? I'm dyin' here.

Sounds like you're on the right track by using the Backup Accounts... feature, but the Import feature is for importing QIF files, not restoring your backup. The Accounts.plist is CheckBook's actual data file and needs to be put in a special place on your fresh OS install to make sure CheckBook can see it. Here's how to get everything working:

1. Make sure CheckBook is not running.
2. Copy your backup of the Accounts.plist to /Users/[your username here]/Library/CheckBook/ and make sure it is named Accounts.plist.
3. Launch CheckBook. All of your Entries should be visible.

The text export you created is only of the data in the currently selected Account and cannot be used to restore CheckBook following a fresh OS install or move to a new Mac. It's really intended to be imported into an application like AppleWorks or Excel for further analysis.
