While trying to figure out a way to archive older accounts, I went to the "accounts" doc in My Documents. When I double-clicked to open it, I got a window that told me that it needed to be updated, so I clicked OK.
when I went back to CBP, almost everything was gone, except for a few checkbooks from a couple years ago. But nothing for 2021, 2022, or 2023.

What did I do? Can I fix it?

CheckBook Pro automatically backs up about once a week. These backups are named after the original Accounts document, plus the current date and version of CheckBook Pro, and they're compressed so they take up very little hard drive space.

To see your automatic backups, open CheckBook Pro, hold the Option key on your keyboard while you go to the Help menu at the top of your screen, click the Go to CheckBook 2 Folder menu item, release the Option key, then open the Backups folder.

Thanks, but that didn't help. I'm sure I did something wrong...

Try it again, being very careful and specific about having Checkbook open, holding the "option" key down while clicking on "Help" because you will get a different dropdown menu if you don't. I tried it to verify and it worked on my MacBook Pro. Let us know, even if you goofed :) , if it worked for you.

Thanks. I've gotten that far, and I can see my zipped backups. I've gone to the Backup dated yesterday, and opened the zipped doc. I get an alert that the document needs to be updated to work with the current version of CBP, currently 2.7.9. If I click OK, when I reopen CBP it doesn't show anything past 2020.

Do you use Time Machine?
Did you look in the trash? I ask because last week my master accounts file somehow ended up in the trash. I moved it back to iCloud>Documents and all was fixed

Glad to hear it worked out but could you post the steps so others can possibly benefit from how it was fixed? Just a thought.

I'd be happy to. But unfortunately, I just did what he said, and didn't take notes. If I recall, it was a matter of finding the correct backup file.
