Why does Audiobook Builder limit part length?
The iPod and iPhone can handle files that contain approximately 2 billion audio samples or less. This translates into roughly 27 hours for Audiobook Builder's Low Quality preset (22.05 kHz), 18 hours for its Normal Quality preset (32 kHz) and 13 hours for its High Quality preset (44.1 kHz). The lower the audio sample rate the longer your parts can be. It's possible to reach a maximum part length of 74 hours by selecting the Custom... Quality option and choosing an 8 kHz sample rate. Files that exceed the 2 billion sample limit will not play properly on the iPod or iPhone.

I have several other programs, on mac Audio Book Binder and on Windows some other, which all allow me to not have a limit on the parts. None of the created books have a problem with my iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 3, iPad mini and so on. Even my square Nano has no problems. So why are we still forced to have this limit. It's the main reason why I don't use ABBuilder anymore but ABBinder, besides the missing option for HE-AAC.

The part length limit still stands for the creation of Audiobook files that are proven to be fully stable on iPods or iPhone. Files that exceed 2 billion samples have been found to cause playback stability issues such as loss of bookmark positioning or unexpected skipping.

However, it's great to hear that the files you've built with those other applications seem to be working out just fine. We're just still very set on producing quality over quantity. But we'll keep testing to see if things change on this front—we'd love to give the people what they want so long as it for sure doesn't lead to other issues.

Keep us posted on how things progress there!
