Hello

It would be nice if in future, better the next, Version of Audiobook Builder the AAC-HE compression is implemented.
In Quicktime 7.6.3 / iTunes 9.0 is the HE-compression selectable.
The resulting files are only half the size of the standard AAC (LC) files.
For Audiobooks a great step forward...

Greetings
Holger

I second that - at low bit rates the quality of Low Complexity AAC isn't a patch on HE-AAC. I bought a copy of ABB this week and was rather surprised that HE-AAC isn't already an build option. Greatly looking forward to its inclusion in the next update! :)

3rd'd. HE should be in already. It's ideal for audiobooks.

Hey guys, just wanted to say that we've got HE-AAC on our list of feature requests and we plan to work on it in the future. It'll take some time to work in, though - Audiobook Builder encodes to an MPEG-4 file through QuickTime and there's no direct way for us to use HE-AAC going that route. There are ways around this limitation and then there are completely different ways to do this kind of thing...we'll see what we can do when we get to work on the next major update!

Thanks for letting us know what you'd like to see in Audiobook Builder - it's nice to have your input!

Perhaps I'm missing something? How does Max (http://sbooth.org/Max/) manage to leverage core audio and encode AAC-he? Shouldn't AudioBook Builder basically already have this built in?

As someone who makes a lot of audiobooks, I have abandoned using Audiobook Builder until AAC-he (with voice filtering) is updated. The quality vs. size is too great for myself to use ABB.

I think you kinda hinted at the answer - Max uses CoreAudio directly rather than QuickTime. That allows it to write HE-AAC straight to an MPEG-4 container. Because Audiobook Builder exports through QuickTime's MPEG-4 exporter we're limited to the codecs supported by that part of the process. We've got a good notion on how to get HE-AAC support in there soon, though - hang in there and thanks for your input!

I work for a company that publishes lectures on audio cd (http://www.home.academy.nl). They are planning to release their entire catalog (about 500 cd's) in m4b format. They are however a bit concerned about file size. So it would be nice if I could encode their lectures with the aac-he codec. Could you please give me an estimation on when you are going to release a new version with support for this codec?

Regards, Frits de Bruijn

The Mac App Store releases and CheckBook has been chewing up most of our time and resources as of late, so it still may be a while before Audiobook Builder gets its Major update with HE-AAC. I wish I could be more accurate with a timeframe, but it relies on several other projects being completed first.

BTW, anyone waiting for HE-AAC, until Audiobook Builder is updated, I suggest you run Parallels and/or Fusion, and use the free Nero Digital encoder located here:

http://www.nero.com/eng/downloads-nerod ... -codec.php

And then the free utility for windows, Chapter and Verse:

http://lodensoftware.com/chapter-and-verse/

It's not quite as simple as just loading a file into audiobook builder and pressing go, but if HE-AAC is a deal breaker, it's really your only good option. One benefit is that nero digital is rated as the best vbr aac codec out there.

You're right, it has been a really long time... We've had a lot on our plate recently with all the big features we're adding to CheckBook (Pro) 2.5 and the work that still needs to be done on our forthcoming iOS version of CheckBook once 2.5 is out. That's also why, unfortunately, we still can't really say exactly when we'll get to any big updates to Audiobook Builder. Just know that adding AAC-HE codec support is at the top of our list when we get a chance to get back to Audiobook Builder. If all goes well this year with our other releases, then hopefully early next year will be the right time.

We appreciate you hanging in there for this long and hope that you can hang in a bit longer. Thanks!

Still patiently waiting!

Would be willing to pay for a new major version that supports this.

:) :)
