I have an audiobook I downloaded which is a collection of MP3 files with one MP3 file per chapter. The original book is also divided into several parts. Is it possible to recreate the original structure when building the audiobook?

There doesn't seem to be a way to manually group chapters into parts. I tried creating separate audiobook files for each of the parts (using "break between files" as the part style) and then building a new audiobook file out of those parts but when viewing the audiobook it only shows the chapters.

There isn't really an easy way to group Chapters into Parts, though there's a bit of a workaround.

For compatibility with a wider range of Apple's devices, each audiobook file can't contain more than about 2.1 billion audio samples or whatever's playing the file could blow a gasket and refuse to play. If you were to set up a Part by hand, the final Part file could easily zoom past the 2.1 billion sample limitation with a change or two in your project's Build Options. Audiobook Builder would have to see this coming and force you to re-work your Parts before building or you'd end up with Parts that don't play on some devices. Sooooo... Audiobook Builder punts and does it all automatically: Your project looks at its Build Options and figures out exactly what will fit into a single Part and whether it needs to split things into Parts.

The workaround is to add the audio files for one of your book's parts at a time so you're just building what goes into each part. The catch these days, since Books can't do this, is you'll need something to edit the metadata so you can change the track name (not the album name) and track number. We'll have to think on how we can help with this. We could provide a way to set the track number, but the Title is chained to both the album name and the track name. That means if you change the Title to match the name of the part of the book you're building, it'll have that as its track name, but also as its album name - so it'll end up sorted differently or completely separately in whatever you're playing with.

Probably a bit more of a "no" than you hoped for, though I hope it helps to hear some of the "why". If you have any ideas on how to handle Parts now that you know why they're set up the way they are, we're all ears!
