Post subject:  Songs, Books or Audiobooks in iTunes?

My iTunes library contains quite some Books and Audiobooks (in addition to music). Most of the Audiobooks were created with AudioBook-Builder (many thanks for the software!). For reasons that I do not understand, 4 (four) of the more than 100 Audiobooks are listed as "Songs" in iTunes 10.5.2. This becomes visible when I select the "Books" section of the full library, and then "grid view". In addition to "Songs" (which are in fact Audiobooks created with AudioBook-Builder) there are also eBooks ("Books" in iTunes) and "real" Audiobooks.

How can I change settings so that *all* Audiobooks are displayed as Audiobooks? I have tried to re-create one of the files by re-loading and saving the project (from the original .abbuilder file) with the current version of AudioBook-Builder (1.5.3), but the classification in iTunes did not change.

Audiobook Builder offers the option to build using the M4A (AAC Music) format, which will show up as music files in iTunes. One possibility is that you may have accidentally selected this format for the four audiobooks. If this is the case, you can reselect the default M4B (AAC Audiobook, Bookmarkable) format in the Audiobook Builder projects by going to the Finish section and then clicking on the 'Build Options...' button located beneath your cover art image. In the middle of the window that pops up you will see the Format field. Rebuild in the M4B format, if it says M4A, and you will be good to go.

If you saw that your Audiobook Builder project was already in M4B then another possibility is that the Media Kind may have somehow gotten changed in iTunes. Here's how to change it back:

Select the problem files and then hold the Control key and click on them. Now select 'Get Info' from the list that drops-down from the cursor. In the window that pops up, click on the Options button at the top of the window. Now, in the field next to the words 'Media Kind' if it says 'Music' click on it and change it to 'Audiobook'. Now the files will show up in the Books section of iTunes.

I hope that gets you going again!

Dear Alan,
many thanks for your feedback!
I have checked the files according to your recommendations:
1) the "Summary" section of the iTunes info window tells that all 4 files end with ".m4b"
2) the "Options" section of the iTunes info window tells that all 4 files are set to Media kind = "Audiobook"
3) the "Build Options" settings of ABB are "M4B".

Maybe I was not fully clear in the initial statement. The files ARE listed in the "Books" section of the iTunes library. But this section is again subdivided in "Songs", "Books" and "Audiobooks". The 4 problem files are shown as "Songs". I will mail a screenshot ...

Can "German Umlaut" characters cause this trouble? All 4 files are "Die drei ???", with titles like "128 Schatten über Hollywood".

ADDED by edit:
After reading this post: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3559
I checked for files in the "Music" section, and (since I keep the .m4a files from the Audio-CD as well) obviously I found the single files from the respective imported CD. There were no "suspicious" files. BUT: When I renamed the original music file (from "128 Schatten über Hollywood" to "128 - Schatten über Hollywood"), and after Quit & Re-Open iTunes, the entries in the "Songs" section were gone.

It seems there is a bug in iTunes that causes trouble when there are files with .m4a and .m4b that have identical names. However, this happens only in some cases which I am unable to specify, because for me only 4 files where affected although I usually keep all originals in addition to the "bookmarkable audiobook" files that ABB produces.
