I'm loading a book -- first time -- from CD and one disc has a fault of some kind that seems to hang Audiobook Builder. So I force quit but when I come back there is only an empty project. No files from the CDs successfully loaded.

So, where do the files go if not in the temp folder I created for them?

Each imported CD is placed inside the current Project's document package. You can see them by right-clicking or Control-clicking on the document in the Finder, then selecting Show Package Contents from the menu that pops up. Because of the hang, Audiobook Builder's not getting a chance to save the Project layout to file - but if you examine the package contents just after the forced quit you can move the imported files, then add them with drag and drop or through the Add Files button in the Project window. You can only do this before the next time you open and close the document in Audiobook Builder because it will tidy up the Project document on disk - removing any files that don't appear in the Project layout.

When Audiobook Builder hangs during a CD import the best workaround is to try iTunes with error correction enabled, then add the imported tracks from iTunes using Audiobook Builder's Add iTunes Selection feature. If that doesn't help then the disc or disc drive may be at fault.
