Post subject:  Silent Gaps in-between Chapters

Hello,

I'm trying out Audio Book Builder and I have a problem and a question.

Program is in demo mode.
Original audio in MP3 mono.
OSX.6.4

I Dragged a folder of a couple dozen audio files to the chapters window.
Files are named in a chapter identifiable format.
I clicked finish, to go to that panel.
Options are set to M4B, and break at chapters.
I click the build button.

It loads into iTunes into a playlist and in the Books section.

When I play the file, I see that it is 20min 42sec (as per the demo limits) and in three chapters.
I can jump to each chapter.

When I allow the book to play through each chapter (as you would when listening normally) there is a ~.75sec dead air gap. between each chapter.

I think there should be no gap what soever. There is zero padding in the individual files, and if I play the individual files in iTunes (not as audio book) it plays back–to–back seamlessly.

Is this a demo mode issue or a bug or … ?

Secondly, I have read the help and the readme and I still need clarification on the "Part Style" in the "Build Options" panel. What do these settings actually do.

Thanks,
-Alan

Audiobook Builder can sometimes add a slight delay between tracks, but .75 seconds is not typical. Is it possible that the original tracks have some silence at the beginning or end, and iTunes is using a crossfade to move between the tracks with less of a gap? You can check your crossfade settings in the iTunes preferences under the playback tab at the top.

Thank you for the reply;

I'm not sure that I understand how the crossfade matters since the resultant audio book is a continuous file. Does it pick up the setting during a build session?

The original files are flagged as part of a gapless album so there should be no effect during playback—right?

Anyway, I loaded the resultant audio book in Amadeus Pro and here are the exact gaps:
4.209-3.119 = 1.09 seconds
40.211-39.131 = 1.08 seconds

So I loaded the original individual audio into Amadeus Pro and found that the gaps exist there too In these particular segments that I tested with. So it is not a Audiobook Builder problem.

But I would still like to understand how the crossfade plays into this.

And my other question:

Secondly, I have read the help and the readme and I still need clarification on the "Part Style" in the "Build Options" panel. What do these settings actually do.

Thanks

well, crossfade would hide the gaps in iTunes so it would make it sound like there were no gaps. That was good problem solving by loading it into another app to see if the gaps were also present.
