I've been using Join Together to combine multiple segments into m4b files and it does the job reliably.

But it's SLOW.

Basically, JT is an applescript that opens selected files (in my case mp3 or aac format) in QuickTime where they're copied and pasted into a single file that JT converts to an m4b file that's up to 12 hours long. To do that on my dual-processor 2.7 GHz G5 takes about an hour.

Will ABB work faster than that?

That is hard to say. Audiobook Builder does allow pass through if the AAC's you are using are all the same bitrate and you do not want to change the quality of the originals. Using pass through, Audiobook Builder could potentially be much faster as it is not re-encoding the files.

Mp3 to .m4b performance may be similar. The advantages of Audiobook Builder is that you have explicit control over part lengths and how they are divided, as well as the ability to make parts that are longer than 12 hours based on the output quality. our normal quality preset does allow for up to 18 hour parts.

You can test with Audiobook Builder's 20 minute free trial length, or you could buy a license and try it out. If you are not satisfied, let us know and we can get you a full refund. I hope some of this above information helps.
