Post subject:  Flip4Mac watermark after using Viddy Up

I downloaded a .avi music video that played fine, when I dropped it onto Viddy Up to encode for the iPod, it worked fine but left a water mark from Flip4Mac! I have the Flip4Mac free plug in installed but I'm not interested in upgrading to a pay version - any idea what gives?
Thanks,
Pat

It's possible the AVI you have contains a track encoded with a codec that only the Flip4Mac plugin understands, but it could be there's a misunderstanding that's led Flip4Mac to take over what would otherwise be a free decoding/encoding sequence handled by either the standard QuickTime components or a free third-party component. Can you send over a link so we can download and examine the AVI file?

Any news regarding this?

A friend of mine just experienced the same problem - I can try and get the file if you want it.

No news - we never received a copy of the AVI.

Can you send your friend's file? If it's available online we only need a link or the exact Limewire/Torrent file name. If it's small enough to send via email send it to support@splasm.com. Thanks!

I have just sent you 2 files via email:

A 10 second clip of the original (in a QT .Mov container) and the ViddyUp processed one.

One interesting thing is, that I we tried this on 2 mac's and the problem only occured on one of them.

The difference? - the Mac without problems had a Flip4Mac WMV Studio license

So it seems that if you have the Flip4Mac Studio license you can export without the watermark - if you only have the free Flip4Mac you can't.

Maybe that can bring you closer to the problem?

Thanks for sending the files. We just looked over them and it's clear that the AVI file contains Windows Media 9 video data. That's why the one Mac works fine with it while the other does not - Flip4Mac users must license at least Flip4Mac Player Pro in order to export Windows Media content to other formats from QuickTime applications like ViddyUp!. I wish there was a viable workaround from QuickTime but the only way to process these files, without licensing Flip4Mac Player Pro or higher, is to forego QuickTime and use a tool based on ffmpeg.

Too bad, but at least we cleared up what was causing the problem.

So if one needs to convert a lot of WMV9 files, you need to purchase the $29 Pro Player from Flip4Mac.

Not a huge amount, but compared to the price of your excellent software it's a bit steep :?

Thanks for you quick response, ViddyUp is a great piece of software.
