I tried encoding two .avi movies today and they both resultd in all white/no sound files that play for the length of the movie. I've done other .avi's and they have turned out fine. any suggestions?

Can you confirm whether the two files you asked Podner to process will play correctly in Podner's movie view?

Neither plays..well, I should say they 'play' but the viewer is all white and there is no sound. The duration is correct and the marker still moves normally.

That indicates the files are not compatible with the QuickTime components installed on your Mac.

You've processed AVI files before, so you should have at least one QuickTime component for handling the video formats an AVI file can contain. It's possible another component is available to help you with these two files. We should confirm what you have installed, first. Would you tell us what files you have in the following folders?

- /Library/QuickTime/

- /Users/[your username here]/Library/QuickTime/

in my Library/Quicktime folder I have installed:
AppleIntermediateCodec.component
EyeTV MPEG Support.component
Flip4Mac WMV Export.component
Flip4Mac WMV Import.component

I don't have a ~/Library/Quicktime folder

I did recently change out my harddrive and had to reinstall everything...it's possible that at some point I had installed a .avi codec that I don't have now...I honestly don't remember where I would find that to reinstall.

Our suggestion is to start with the DivX 6 Decoder, which you can download for free at http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/download/

After the installation, try dragging the two files to Podner and see if they play correctly. If they do, tell Podner to process the files and let us know what happens.

Genius! Looks like that might have done it - the movie played in the Podner viewer...I'm encoding it now. I'll post back if I have any problems.
Thanks!!!
Pat
