So I've got Divx-style AVIs that play fantastically in VLC, but need to be Divx-Doctored to work in QuickTime. Fine. The doctored AVIs still play great in VLC, but are display jerky motion in QuickTime. Seeing as Podner uses QuickTime for its decoding, the resulting Podnerized files exhibit the same jerky motion. I'm using the 3ivx codec on a 1.42ghz Mac mini with 512MB RAm. I went to try out the regular Divx-branded codec, but it claims lack of support for Tiger, so I hesitated to install it - I'm new to all this Mac stuff. Any suggestions on improving my Podner movies?

We've witnessed the jerky 3ivx playback but weren't aware it affects Podner's output. We've got files here that play terribly but when Podner is done with them the results are fine. Can you confirm Podner's output is as jerky as when QuickTime Player plays your files? If so, we would really appreciate a chance to look at one of your files so we can try to determine why this is happening. We would certainly contact the 3ivx guys and make them aware of the issue.

While DivX 5.2.1 is not compatible with Tiger, we have had good results in testing the latest beta of DivX Fusion for Mac, available at http://download.divx.com/labs/DivXFusionBeta3.dmg .

I'd be happy to give you an example set of files - which ones would you like? Pre- and post-Podner? Should I try out Fusion first and see if the issues remain?

I think it's a good idea for us to see the 3ivx issue firsthand from start to finish, so a pre-Podner sample that you know doesn't look right after Podner would be best. We'd also need the Encoding and Quality settings you used in Podner. Please send the sample and settings to support@splasm.com.

Personally, after you send the sample I'd try the DivX Fusion beta to see what happens.
